I want to share my reflection on culture among Morrie’s aphorisms. Morrie encouraged us not to adopt materialism. We usually blame on ourselves when we cannot achieve the success estimated by our society. However, if we realize that extreme capitalism or materialism lead us to excessive competition without any happy moment out of the experience, we will start to find the alternative to it. Morrie reminded us of our capability to create
a better culture. That is why this book is valuable.

The culture we have does not make people feel good about themselves. And you have to be strong enough to say if the culture doesn’t work, don’t buy it.
People are only mean when they’re threatened, and that’s what our culture does… And when you get threatened, you start looking out only for yourself. You start making money a god. It is all part of this culture.
