The article explains the problematic biofuel's efficiency in reducing the carbon dioxide emission. Economical pursuit to make the Azazon forest into farmland or cropfield for biofuel resources threatens the enviornmental preservation. Various proofs are provided. Firstly, the rate of deforestation closely tracks commodity prices on the Chicago Board of Trade.
The deforestation in Amazon has its fomula.
forest->pastures->sugarcane->soybean fields
The myth around biofuel is another reason of forest destruction. The article quotes Tim Searhcinger, a Princeton scholar and former Environmental Defense attorney.
"People don't want to believe renewable fuels could be bad," But when you realize we're tearing down rain forests that store loads of carbon to grow crops that store much less carbon, it becomes obvious."
To make matters worse, governmental mandates to increase biofuel leads accelarating commodity prices, which is the main reason for people to deforest Amazon to cultivate sugarcane or other crops, which are the sources for biofuels.
The article displays detailed the cycle of a vicious cycle around the biofuel myth that is thought to ease glboal warming. The myth causes higher food prices, more deforestation and more emissions.
Finally, the author emphasizes the necessity to continue to search for diverse possible ways to save energy in addition to finding the nature-friendly way of energy production.
The article enable me to realize that it is obvious that biofuel syndrom negatively affects global warming issues.
